I watched a few episodes of Prisoner in re-runs back in the '90's in England and was delighted to binge watch this incredible series recently in its entirety. A "best of" compilation will no doubt leave the viewer wanting more. It is amazing how well-produced the program was, especially given that Australian television had only been creating original material for about 12 years when it began to air. British traditional education and sophistication certainly played a role in the writing. The show was done with insight, maturity and subtlety, which television these days completely lacks. While the plot thoughtfully addressed the actual problems faced by women in the penal system (and it realistically and sympathetically examined dozens of complex situations and personality types), there were no hidden political agendas behind the story lines, no propagandizing in the dialog, no hype and no obscenity. So much of the acting was natural and compelling, yet the camp humor cannot be missed. Watching this is a refreshing look back at a time when popular culture was much better. Missing those days!
