Description
2011 two CD collection. Backing Johnny Kidd in the early '60s, The Pirates - the late great Mick Green (guitar), Johnny Spence (Bass, lead vocals) and Frank Farley (drums) - were Rock 'n' Roll's first bona-fide power trio. Reconvening in the latter half of the '70's their uncompromising approach and awesome stage presence won them a whole new generation of fans. In the '70s, Pub Rock, alongside Punk, was born and The Pirates played the same famous London pub venues of the time such as the Hope & Anchor and the Nashville Rooms to the same acclaim. Here we have 52 of their finest and rarest recordings 1977 - 1979 featuring many unreleased and rare tracks and those famous live performances that still sound as fresh today as when they were recorded in front of a riotous audience. Long live Rock 'n' Roll! Salvo.

this is an amazing collection containing 52 tracks by the re formed pirates from 1977 to 79, the bbc sessions where great when that cd was issued some years back but this one is even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as any pirates fan knows this was johnny kidds backing band in the early 60s before his death, mick green put the pirates back together in late 1975 and somehow they got meshed in with the 77 punk explosion but they fit live better with ducks deluxe, dr feelgood, eggs over easy, tyla gang or eddie and the hot rods a great pub rock band sounding a little like mid 60s mod era who but also meshed in the punk explosion of 77, anyway live the pirates where an amazing band, mick and crew could easily take on bigger acts like dr feelgood or give the damned, sex pistols or the buzzcocks a run for there money, the pirates played live with a lot of power and a lot of energy, you can almost smell the sweat running down the walls playing these two discs, these where awsome days for rock n roll, when mick put this incarnation of the pirates back together they where more powerful and in your face then they had been in the early 60s with johnny kidd, the pirates gigged a lot from 76 to around 82 and then split again for good but did continue to do the occasional reunion gigs about every 2 years or every year, they even went to japan in the late 1990s for some shows, i had always wished they came here to new york to do a gig at the ritz or someplace like that but it never happened, a lot of people dont know this but i knew a friend of mick green and he had told me that jimmy page hung out with mick a lot in the early 60s when jimmy was a session player and took a lot from him i belive this guy becouse he grew up with mick and showed me photos it was to bad page never really spoke of mick after HE rose to fame around 1968/69, regardless mick was one of the most underated guitarists out of the british invasion era, if you ask anyone who is still around from that time and was on that scene they sure will have a story about MICK GREEN, anyway mick i thought made an awsome comeback with the pirates in the mid 70s and i wish they had continued on well into the 80s fulltime but sadley that was not to be, if you are a fan already i know you will be getting this if you have not already, if you are not check these guys out on the net and im sure you will buy this cd in a minute, this is classic pirates live!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rip mick you are missed by REAL rockers like myself.................... you where one of a kind
